Single-molecule imaging and Microbial bioenergetics Lab

The Park Research Group studies extracellular electron transfer in electroactive bacteria, a process of growing interest for bioenergy applications such as microbial fuel cells. We seek to uncover its fundamental mechanisms in vitro and in living systems, and to enhance its efficiency through nanomaterial integration to advance next-generation biotechnologies. Our primary experimental approach centers on quantitative single-molecule and single-cell imaging techniques, including single-molecule tracking, super-resolution imaging, and single-molecule FRET. Projects in our laboratory provide researchers with opportunities to build quantitative skills and gain expertise in optics and microscopy, imaging analysis, biophysical and biochemical techniques, as well as general molecular biology in protein systems.
